One of the frustrations created by the last year’s Covid related cancellations has been the realisation that the rescheduled Goodwood Revival and Members Meeting dates clash with work that’s already firmly in my diary.

Knowing I’d have to miss my annual historic motorsport fix I grabbed the chance this week to go along to two testing days for the Revival. While the cars aren’t actually racing each other on these days, there’s always lots of activity on track and the paddocks are full of cars and people are they prepare for their races later this month.
With an all Mini race scheduled for the Revival there were plenty of my favourite diminutive cars on track and in the paddocks, so naturally they became the focus of my camera some of the time.
While exploring the paddocks I also did some people photography as the mechanics and drivers prepared their cars. One of the resulting photos makes me wonder just how many people it took to change a single wheel?!
I’m not usually a big one for photographing motorbikes, but I needed to practise my panning so the bikes were as good a subject as any. As it happens, I’m quite pleased with the results!
During my second day at the circuit I bumped into some friends and we agreed to a photographic challenge – panning shots taken at 1/20 of a second. I’d tried my hand at some slower panning yesterday, but this is much slower than I’d habitually go for fast cars. Naturally, there were lots of failures, but I came away with a couple of successes too. My final image is a Ford GT 40 which I dare say any camera club judge would hate because nothing is really sharp. That said, I rather like its impressionistic quality and you can’t argue that it has a definite sense of speed!
