We were promised blue skies and sunshine today so I took that as my cue to catch the last of the autumn colour before the wind whipped it away from the trees.
My destination was St. Dunstan-in-the-East in the City of London – one of the churches I’ve photographed as part of my City Churches project. Rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren following the Great Fire in 1666, St. Dunstan’s suffered some more bad luck during the Blitz, when it was gutted. After the war it was decided not to rebuild the church’s interior, turning it instead into a garden space.
I had a feeling the church would offer some beautiful autumnal opportunities and my gut instinct turned out to be correct. With a carpet of gold on the cobblestones and a good covering of leaves still on the trees, the sun brought a glow to proceedings and my pinhole photos (taken with Kodak Ektar 100 – the ultimate sunny day colour film) have captured this beautifully.
